The Salem Public Art Commission invites artists residing in the state of Massachusetts to submit materials for consideration for $12,000 commission grant to create a temporary, interactive public art installation in underutilized public parks in Salem, MA 01970. Deadline to submit materials is December 15th, 2022 at 4 pm.
Calls in Review
In August 2022, the City of Salem released a call inviting artists from the greater Boston area to submit qualifications for a $30,000 public art commission grant award to create a large-scale mural in the Great Room at the Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center located at 401 Bridge St, Salem, MA 01970. The application window for this call closed on September 15, 2022 and is currently under review. Please stay tuned for updates!
Forest River Spray Deck & Filter Building Facade: In fall of 2020, the Salem Public Art Commission invited artists to submit qualifications for a $40,000 Public Art Commission Grant Award, under MGL c. 30B, §2, to participate in the design and construction of a spray deck/splash pad and filter/pump house wall, both to be built adjacent to the new Forest River Pool and Bathhouse. This was awarded to Louis & Meng Creation and was completed in Spring of 2022.
Naumkeag Portrait: In Spring of 2020, the Salem Public Art Commission invited artists to submit qualifications for a $30,000 public art commission grant award to create a portrait of a Naumkeag leader or other prominent Indigenous community member to commemorate the Indigenous Peoples of Salem, MA. This award was granted to Chris Pappan. The creation of this portriat is still in progress and scheudled for instiatllion and dedication in December 2022. Stay tuned for more details.
