Overview of Salem and Peabody - Boston Street/Main Street improvements

A Live Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Boston Street/Main Street Improvements project in Salem and Peabody, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Boston Street/Main Street Improvements project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of improvements to pedestrian, bicycle, traffic signal, transit accommodations, and roadway accommodations on Boston Street from the Peabody City line to Essex Street, and on Main Street in Peabody, from the Salem City line to Howley Street. Improvements will include full depth roadway and sidewalk reconstruction, off-road bike lanes and shared use paths, upgrades to all traffic signals along the corridor, landscaping, stormwater improvements and utility relocations

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Cities of Peabody and Salem are responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.

Project inquiries, written statements and other exhibits regarding the proposed undertaking may be submitted to Carrie E.
