​​​​​​​Salem Council on Aging Celebrates 55 Years

The Salem Council on Aging will celebrate their 55th anniversary with an Open House for the public on Wednesday, October 12th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Mayor Jean Levesque Community Life Center, 401 Bridge Street, Salem. Founded in October of 1967 to serve the needs of Salem's older adults, the mission of the Salem Council on Aging is to develop and offer inclusive programs for all seniors (60 and older) and younger residents with disabilities regardless of their race, faith, culture, gender identity or sexuality that affirm life and independence, challenge creativity, enhance socialization and promote spiritual, psychological, and physical wellness.

The Open House will feature demonstrations of classes offered at the center including Chair Yoga, Aerobics, Strong Bones, Meditation, Chair Pilates, Meditation, a slide show of COA events throughout the years, music, dance, and food. Staff will be on hand to share information about Social Services, Transportation, Nutrition and Wellness programs. Representatives from the Board, Friends of the Council on Aging, and Salem for All Ages will be present, as well as the Park and Recreation and Veterans departments, which are housed at the Community Life Center with the Council on Aging.
