City of Salem Short Term Rental Registration Simplified

One form to register and apply for Certificate of Fitness

If you own a property in Salem that you list as a short-term rental, the City of Salem has simplified the process for getting your property in compliance with the City’s rules for such rentals.

Previously, short-term rental owners needed to separately apply for the short-term rental registry AND get a Board of Health Certificate of Fitness.

Starting immediately, owners can submit a single application to both register their property and sign up for the Certificate of Fitness inspection. There is a $50 fee for the short-term rental registration and a separate $50 fee for the Certificate of Fitness.

Per City ordinance, property owners who list a short-term rental in Salem must both register it and have a currently valid Certificate of Fitness. Both steps must be completed annually. Listing a short-term rental that is not registered or that does not have a currently valid Certificate of Fitness could result in daily fines of up to $300/day.

You can fill out the single application to both register the property and get the Certificate of Fitness by visiting https://salemma.viewpointcloud.com/categories/1085/record-types/6606.
