Frequently Asked Questions
Why did I receive this notice?
You received this notice because your property is located near a property for which an application has been made to one of Salem’s boards or commissions. The notice is to inform you of a public meeting and/or public hearing before one of these boards or commissions.

Is any action required of me?
No, no action is required.

What can I do?
You may attend the public meeting. If a public hearing is being held, you may offer comments during the public hearing portion of the meeting, or by submitting written comment before the meeting to the staff person for the relevant board or commission (see below for contact information).

Written comments regarding an item before the board or commission will be accepted until the Chair closes the public comment period for the item. We encourage written comments to be submitted as soon as possible and preferably not later than 24 hours before the start of the public meeting. Doing so will allow more time for the board or commission members to review and consider the comments.

You may also view applications, plans, and other relevant materials on each board’s SharePoint website (see below). Alternatively, you may view these materials by visiting the Department of Planning and Community Development during regular business hours:
City Hall Annex, 98 Washington Street, 2nd Floor, Salem, MA 01970
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 8 am to 4 pm
Thursday: 8 am to 7 pm
Friday: 8 am to 12 pm

Where can I find more information?
Please find the homepage, SharePoint site, and staff contact information for each board/commission below. The homepage includes a meeting calendar, agendas, meeting minutes, and other relevant materials including written decisions. The SharePoint site includes the materials for each public meeting, such as applications and plans.
