Heating Assistance

National Grid offers a Discounted Rate for electricity and gas if you are within certain income thresholds. Apply online at https://www.nationalgridus.com/Discount-Rate-App-MA.

Any resident who, because of temporary financial difficulty, cannot meet a month's energy expense and is not eligible for state or federal energy assistance can apply to the Massachusetts Good Neighbor fund, as well. Electricity Assistance

All Salem residents and businesses are eligible to join the City's electricity supply program, Salem PowerChoice. Salem PowerChoice gives electricity customers in Salem a City-vetted alternative to National Grid’s Basic Service and to other electricity supply offers in the marketplace, access to cleaner electricity, and long-term, stable pricing. While savings compared with National Grid’s Basic Service cannot be guaranteed every year, for the Winter 2022 period PowerChoice members will pay lower electricity supply rates than ratepayers with National Grid. If you had a water leak or break, a high estimated reading due to a malfunctioning meter, or an unoccupied unit and would like to request an abatement of your water and sewer bill, use the form at https://www.salemma.gov/water-sewer/files/application-water-sewer-abatement.
