Zoning Board of Appeals

The City of Salem is now using an online system for permit applications. This new system will streamline the application process for both the applicants and the department staff.

Applicants can take out permit applications at a time and location of their convenience; payment by credit card or check is also securely integrated into the process via Stripe. An e-mail address is required to access this system.

Every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via technological means. In the event that we are unable to do so on matters not requiring a public hearing, we will post on the City of Salem’s website an audio or video recording, transcript, or other comprehensive record of proceedings as soon as possible after the meeting.  

Individuals may participate remotely in the meeting via a remote participation platform called Zoom. Members of the public and/or parties with a right and/or requirement to attend this meeting may access the remote participation meeting through any one of the following ways:

To apply for a variance or special permit, to find meeting dates and agendas or to obtain minutes of Zoning meetings, please contact Daniel Laroe in the Department of Planning & Community Development at (978) 619-5685.

Note: Submittals should be in by 12:00pm noon 21 days prior to each meeting. Applications will be accepted each month on a first-come, first served basis. Once the monthly meeting agenda is full, petitions will be carried over to the following month’s meeting.
