Bridge Street Neck: Vision Update Study

Public Comment Period March 19-April 30
BSN study

In 2009 the City collaborated with neighborhood stakeholders to develop a vision for the future of Bridge Street Neck. A key recommendation of that effort was to allow for mixed-use development. The Bridge Street Neck zoning effort did not move forward at that time. However, since 2009 there have been significant economic and neighborhood changes occurring along Bridge Street Neck. To that end, the City has reconvened a neighborhood planning effort that brought together residents, business owners, and other stakeholders of the historic Bridge Street Neck Neighborhood to freshen up the vision for the area and identify next steps.

The results of the neighborhood planning effort is a Vision Update Study, available at https://www.salem.com/sites/g/files/vyhlif12836/f/uploads/bridge_street_neck_vision_update_study.pdf. The Vision Update Study builds upon a decade’s worth of planning efforts and incorporates analyses of existing conditions, opportunities and challenges the neighborhood faces. Further, the study includes a fresh vision along with processes and recommendations to help achieve the future the community wants for its neighborhood.

Bridge Street Neck stakeholders are invited to provide comments beginning on Thursday, March 19, 2020 through April 30, 2020. Written comments may be emailed to achiancola@salem.com or sent to the Department of Planning & Community Development, 98 Washington Street, Salem, MA 01970.
