Cardboard Recycling at Salem Transfer Station Updated Schedule During Winter Season

Cardboard Boxes

Mayor Dominick Pangallo announced today that cardboard drop-off is available at the Salem Transfer Station, 12 Swampscott Road during the off-season every other Thursday from 7:30 am - 2:30 pm on the following dates: January 4th & 18th. February 1st, 15th, & 29th. March 14th & 28th and April 11th. The transfer station will open for the 2024 season on April 13th when yard waste can be brought here again.

“I am pleased that the City of Salem is able to offer this additional cardboard recycling opportunity, especially during this holiday season, when cardboard packaging may be piling up,” said Mayor Pangallo, “We encourage those who are able, to collapse and add their cardboard to their recycling toter for curbside collection.  For those who may have excess cardboard, or are not part of the City's curbside collection program, we hope this new free service will be helpful. I am grateful to the City of Salem employees who worked to make this possible."

To ensure that the cardboard recycling program at the transfer station is successful, it is imperative that only clean, dry cardboard is brought to this location. Cardboard must also be flattened. If the cardboard boxes can be reused, please bring them to U-Haul Moving & Storage at 43 Jefferson Ave as they offer a “take a box, leave a box” reuse program.
