The Salem Public Library is excited to announce the launch of "Family Circle Time," an adaptive sensory-friendly song and movement program, designed to bring families together in an inclusive and supportive environment. About Family Circle Time: Family Circle Time is crafted/designed for children ages 3-8 with autism spectrum disorders and sensory processing disorders, as well as children of all differing abilities. The program is designed to provide a welcoming space for families (including siblings of all ages) to learn, play, and connect through the joy of stories, music, and movement.

"We are thrilled to introduce Family Circle Time, a program that goes beyond traditional library offerings to create a space where all families feel welcome and included," said Simone Lorrain, Head of Youth Services. “This is a step towards making our library and programming more sensory-friendly and enhancing our services to the neurodivergent community.”

Adaptive and Inclusive Family Circle Time is tailored to be adaptive and inclusive, ensuring that children of all needs and differing abilities feel comfortable and supported. A social story will also be available ahead of time so families will know what to expect when they attend the program. The program creates a sensory-friendly environment, incorporating elements such as noise-canceling headphones, weighted blankets, and fidget toys to accommodate unique sensory needs. Through a variety of songs, stories and movement activities, Family Circle Time encourages interactive play and fosters the bond between children and their caregivers/families. Families will have the opportunity to connect with one another, share experiences, and build a sense of community within Salem and surrounding towns.

The program will run every other Saturday at 10:30am, starting on January 27th and running until April 6th. Space is limited to 12 children. Families interested in participating in Family Circle Time can register at https://salempl.org/calendar/ or call 978-744-9667. The program is free of charge, and all are welcome to join.
