City of Salem Improves Connections With Local Businesses

Joins Alignable social media network for business growth and support

Mayor Kimberley Driscoll today announced that the City of Salem has joined Alignable, an online social networking platform for local businesses to grow their network and join together with other nearby businesses in their community. The network allows local business owners to connect, collaborate, and build relationships with others nearby, in their industry, and based on interests.

The effort is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to be accessible to local businesses, while also supporting the growth of Salem’s small business community overall.

“Running a local business is hard work, especially with the ever-changing landscape of technology and consumer behavior,” said Mayor Driscoll. “With Alignable we saw an opportunity to increase our visibility among our businesses, engage with them, and foster a stronger sense of community. This tool is one more way we are working to keep Salem on the forefront of progress and positive, thoughtful growth that benefits all who live, work, study, and visit our great City.”

“After a shared connection at InnoNorth referred me to Mayor Driscoll and the City’s Economic Development Planner Andrew Shapiro, the value in partnering together was instantaneously clear,” said Dan Slagen, CMO at Alignable. “The need for efficient business owner networking is at a turning point in every city across the country, and it has been thrilling to see Salem get behind this movement as a pioneering, technology-focused city. A number of cities talk the talk when it comes to supporting local businesses, but Salem is legitimately stepping up to the plate to help connect every business owner in their city together," said Slagen.

The City’s profile page on Alignable includes basic information about services that the City provides for businesses, as well as upcoming events and promotions. Once a business connects with the City on the Alignable platform it can communicate by sending messages that are monitored by and responded to by economic development staff.

The City’s use of Alignable also aligns with its recent new initiative to better engage technology-focused businesses. That initiative, InnoNorth, launched in June and is a program developed jointly by the City of Salem and local technology leaders to engage these businesses and entrepreneurs and to firmly establish Salem as the next great innovation hub in Massachusetts.

As awareness of the Alignable platform builds, the City hopes that more local businesses and organizations sign on and connect through it. Setting up an account and utilizing the platform is free.
