Joint Statement from Salem City Leaders

Salem City Seal

We unequivocally condemn the recent reprehensible and brutal terror attacks carried out by Hamas against innocent civilians in Israel. We stand with our Jewish community members in support of peace in the region. The City of Salem’s very name comes from “shalom,” the Hebrew word for peace, and “salaam,” the Arabic word for peace.

Hamas's actions escalate tensions, perpetuate a cycle of violence, and inflict unnecessary suffering and death on innocent residents throughout the region.  We stand in solidarity with all who have endured the trauma of these attacks. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of those killed, who have suffered immeasurable pain and loss.

In these challenging times, let us reiterate our support for a world where violence is replaced with understanding, where diplomacy triumphs over conflict, and where the rights and security of all people are protected and respected.

Signed,
