Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll Named to Environmental Protection Agency’s Local Government Advisory Committee

Panel of 30 municipal leaders from across the nation offer guidance to EPA

Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll has been appointed by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Gina McCarthy to serve a two-year term on the EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee (LGAC).

The LGAC, established in 1993, is made up of 30 municipal, county, state, and tribal officials from across the nation and provides advice to assist EPA in developing a stronger partnership with local governments and building state and local capacity to deliver environmental services and programs. The committee provides recommendations to the EPA Administrator on a broad range of topics, including: regulatory innovation and reform, environmental protection tools, pollution prevention, new technologies, performance measurement, and appropriate roles of the various governmental levels in efficient and coordinated environmental management.

“I am honored to be selected by Administrator McCarthy to join this important group,” said Mayor Driscoll, who also serves on the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s Environmental Policy Committee. “Salem’s interactions with EPA have been numerous over the years – from our brownfields remediation work in the North River Canal Corridor to our coastal wetlands areas and more. I’ve been impressed with the professionalism and expertise EPA staff have brought to issues facing our City and I look forward to offering my input to help guide the continued progress of the agency in their important work.”
